Director of Medical Services

Summary

The Director of Medical Services supports the mission and values of Maple City Health Care Center (MCHCC) by providing clinical leadership and oversight to all clinical care, services, and clinical staff (medical, dental, and behavioral health), ensuring clinically related quality goals are met and supporting clinical staff, and participating in the Administrative Team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures clinical vision across the sites
    • Provides leadership, guidance, and clinical supervision to all clinical staff (including medical, dental, and behavioral health staff)
    • Oversees clinical capacity and productivity, determining adequate provider coverage at all clinical sites as well as after-hours telephone coverage to ensure quality and accessibility of care
    • Assesses new clinical initiatives, partnerships, and models of care as they arise
    • Participates in monthly meetings: Combined Site Coordination, Provider meeting, and Operations Team; and specialty clinical team meetings (OB, Dental, Behavioral Health, etc.) as needed
    • Collaborates with Executive Director and Director of HR in decisions about appropriate clinical staffing, recruitment of providers, and provides oversight to clinical trainings
  • Ensures providers and clinical staff are practicing within scope
    • Reviews and recommends to the board all credential and privilege applications
    • Ensures regular reviews of clinical charts for practitioners with collaborating practice agreements
    • Coordinates with supervisors of non-provider clinical staff to ensure all clinical staff are appropriately trained and operating within an appropriate scope
    • Develops, updates, and monitors clinical standards to assure high quality of care

    • Collaborates with Director of Operations, Director of Patient Resources, Medical Provider Leads, and Site Administrators to ensure patient flow, productivity, and quality of care are upheld throughout the organization, including setting benchmarks and expectations of quality and productivity for providers
    • Ensures, in coordination with Director of Operations, Director of Patient Resources, Medical Provider Leads, and Site Administrators that providers comply with all expectations of their roles
    • Develops and supervises system of clinical performance improvement based on clinical standards and best practices
    • Supervises and supports the Physician Clinical Data Specialist in their work overseeing and supporting clinical data systems and processes including clinical quality data tracking and reporting, Epic updates and refinements, and electronic health record training for providers
    • Oversees development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures and ensures their distribution and awareness among clinical staff
    • Oversees clinical quality activities, manages and modifies clinical quality priorities and procedures as needed, and reports findings to the Executive Director
    • Collaborates with the Executive Director in oversight of clinically related risk management activities
  • Participates in the medical care of patients at MCHCC as a physician
    • Follows all provider expectations of physicians, in line with the percent of time dedicated to clinical care as described on the applicable physician job description
    • Meets with the care team twice daily to review upcoming appointment and individual patient needs
    • Provides direct patient care both to assigned patients and when immediate needs arise
  • Assists with compliance related to HRSA Clinical Outcomes, health care indicators, 330 grant requirements and other grant-related clinical compliance as needed
    • Collaborates with the Executive Director to ensure clinical service lines are appropriately aligned with the organization’s federally approved scope of practice (form 5A)
  • Collaborates with the Director of Operations to develop the organization’s emergency preparedness plan and directs clinical elements of the emergency response team
  • Collaborates with other Administrative Team members on ongoing strategic planning
  • Other duties that support our shared work as assigned
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills

Job Requirements

  • Active Indiana physician license
  • DEA and CSR (controlled substance registration) certification
  • Experience with community healthcare operations and familiarity with Federally Qualified Health Care Organizations strongly preferred
  • Experience in team leadership preferred
  • Experience in clinical quality management preferred
  • Experience with Trauma Informed Care preferred
  • Experience with Motivational Interviewing preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) proficiency preferred

Accountability

The Director of Medical Services position is supervised by the Executive Director and provides direct clinical supervision, including review of clinical performance to all physicians, dentists, nurse midwives, behavioral health providers, and medical provider leads. The Director of Medical Services also supervises the Physician Clinical Data Specialist in their work. Administrative supervision of clinical staff is provided through clinic-specific lines of supervision (ex: Medical Provider Leads, Site Administrators and the Director of Operations). Salary Range and Benefits

Salary is determined according to the Employee Salary and Wage Protocol, based on a range of factors including education, experience, responsibility, and language proficiency. S/He/They will receive comprehensive employee benefits package, based on FTE.
